January is the Month, the Church Dedicates to the Most Holy Name of Jesus & the Most Holy Family

Ejaculatory Prayers to the Holy Family.

[An Indulgence of 300 days every time the three following ejaculatory prayers are said, to obtain a happy death. For saying any one of them, 100 days Indulgence]

Non-Sunday Holy Days of Obligation

Saint Pope Pius X promulgated on 2 July 1911, the Motu Proprio, Supremi Disciplinae, relating to Holy Days of obligation. It reduced the number of non-Sunday holy days of Obligation from 36 to 8, which are as follows:

1. December 8th: The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

2. December 25th: Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ (Christmas)

3. January 1st: Circumcision of the Lord and Octave of the Nativity

4. January 6th: Epiphany of the Lord

5. Thursday after the 5th Sunday after Easter: The Ascension of the Lord

6. June 29th: Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles

7. August 15th: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

8. November 1st: All Saints

In the United States four of these feasts are abolished as holidays of obligation, namely Epiphany, Corpus Christi, St. Joseph, and SS. Peter and Paul.

There is no obligation for fast or abstinence on a holy day of obligation, even if it falls on a Friday.

January 19: Commemoration of Ss. Marius, Martha, Audifax, and Abachum Martyrs; Commemoration of St. Canute, Martyr.

January 20: Ss. Fabian Pope and Sebastian Martyrs, Double.

January 21: St. Agnes, Roman Virgin and Martyr, Double.

January 22: Ss. Vincent and Anastasius Martyrs, Simple.

 

January 23: III Sunday after Epiphany, Double; Commemoration of St. Raymund of Peñafort Confessor; Commemoration of St. Emerentiana Virgin and Martyr.
