Rank: Double of the I Class
(Part III - Devotional Prayers)
℣. The holy Mother of God is exalted.
℟. To the heavenly
kingdom above the Choirs of Angels.
Prayer (Collect).
Forgive, O Lord, we beseech thee, the sins of thy people, that we who are not able to do anything of ourselves that can be pleasing to thee, may be assisted in the way of salvation by the prayers of the mother of thy Son. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE CANTICLE OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY (MAGNIFICAT). Luke i.
My soul doth magnify the Lord: And my spirit hath rejoiced: in God my Saviour. For he hath looked down on his lowly handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he who is mighty hath done great things to me: and holy is his name. And his mercy from generation to generation, is shown to those who fear him. He hath exerted his strength by his own arm: he hath disappointed the proud ones of the designs of their hearts. He hath cast down the mighty ones from the throne: and raised up the lowly ones. He hath filled the hungry with good things: but the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath upholden his servant Israel: being mindful of his mercy. As he promised to our Father: to Abraham and his seed for ever.
LESSON. Ecclesiast. xxiv. (from the Mass)
I have sought every where for an abode, and I will settle in the lot of the Lord. Then the Creator of all things gave me his commands, and spoke to me; and he that made me, rested under my tabernacle; and said to me: Dwell in Jacob, and take thy lot in Israel, and amongst my chosen people spread forth thy roots; and thus I was established in Sion, and settled in the holy city, and my empire in Jerusalem. And I took root amidst an honorable people, and in the lot of my God is his inheritance, and my habitation is in the midst of the holy things. I grew up like the cedar on Libanus, and as the cypress on mount Sion. I grew up like the palm in Cades, and as the grove of roses in Jericho. Like the beautiful olive-tree in the fields, and as the plane-tree on the way side near the waters did I grow up. Like cinnamon and sweet smelling balm I sent forth perfumes: like chosen myrrh, I sent forth a sweet odour.

Hear the petition of the poor; spurn not the wounds and the groans of the miserable.
Let our devotion and our sighs be carried through thee to the presence of the Creator, for we are not ourselves worthy of being heard because of our evil deserts.
O powerful Mistress of heaven and earth, wipe out our trespasses and our sins.
Destroy our wickedness and depravity.
Raise the fallen, the debilitated, and the fettered. Loose the condemned. Repair through thyself the transgressions of our immorality and our vices. Bestow upon us through thyself the blossoms and ornaments of good actions and virtues. Appease for us the Judge by thy prayers and thy supplications. Allow us not, for mercy's sake, to be carried off from thee among the spoils of our enemies. Allow not our souls to be condemned, but take us to thyself for ever under thy protection.
We, moreover, beseech and pray thee, holy Mary, to obtain, through thy potent supplication, before thy only Son, that is, Jesus Christ, the son of the living God, that God may defend us from all straits and temptations.
Obtain also for us from the God of Creation the forgiveness and remission of all our sins and trespasses, and that we may receive from Him further, through thy intercession, the everlasting habitation of the heavenly kingdom, through all eternity, in the presence of the saints and the saintly virgins of the world; which may we deserve, may we enjoy, in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
